How does powder quality affect my final part?

Powder quality has a direct impact on the mechanical properties, surface finish, and dimensional accuracy of your final part. MJF uses nylon powder that can be partially recycled between builds  but over time, unused powder degrades from repeated heat exposure, reducing its flowability and consistency. High-quality, well-managed powder (with an optimal ratio of fresh to recycled powder) produces parts with uniform density, smooth surfaces, and predictable strength. Poor powder quality can lead to porosity, warping, rough surfaces, and weaker mechanical performance. Reputable MJF service providers actively monitor and control their powder refresh rates to ensure consistent, high-quality output every time.
